Learn about our journey from a small group of medical students to a dedicated organization serving Nepal's healthcare needs.
At OATH, we believe healthcare is a fundamental human right, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford it. Our mission extends beyond providing financial aid – we are committed to creating a healthcare ecosystem where every Nepali citizen has access to quality medical care, regardless of their economic circumstances.
We work tirelessly to bridge the gap between medical need and financial capability, ensuring that no patient is turned away from hospitals due to inability to pay. Through our Poor Patients' Fund, we provide direct financial assistance for essential medicines, critical diagnostic tests, life-saving surgeries, and emergency medical treatments.
Our approach is holistic – we don't just provide funds, we build partnerships with healthcare institutions, train volunteers in patient advocacy, and work towards systemic changes that make healthcare more accessible and affordable for all.
In 2065 B.S. (2008 AD), a group of passionate medical students at Nepal Medical College witnessed something that would change their lives forever. They saw patients being turned away from hospitals, not because their conditions were untreatable, but because they couldn't afford the treatment.
These students realized that while they were learning to heal bodies, there was a deeper wound in the healthcare system itself - the financial barrier that prevented the most vulnerable from accessing care. They decided to take an oath, not just as future doctors, but as human beings committed to ensuring healthcare equity.
What started as informal collections among classmates to help individual patients soon grew into a structured organization. The founders believed that if they could mobilize their network of fellow students, faculty, and eventually the broader community, they could create a sustainable fund to bridge this gap.
Today, OATH stands as a testament to what young people can achieve when they combine compassion with action. Our grassroots, student-led approach ensures that every donation goes directly to those who need it most.
To fulfill our mission, we established the Poor Patients' Fund (PPF). 100% of donations to this fund are used to provide direct financial aid to patients who are unable to afford basic healthcare services, including medicines, investigations, and hospital stays.
Our volunteer network identifies patients in need through partnerships with hospitals and healthcare providers across Nepal. We work directly with medical institutions to ensure funds reach the right patients at the right time.
Every donation is tracked and accounted for. We maintain complete transparency in our operations, ensuring donors know exactly how their contributions are making a difference in patients' lives.
